BS-7 HVAC Performance Validation


Business needs:
Emerging technologies for performance validation, like simulation and other model-based methods, require detailed information from systems and their components. These methods utilize e.g. physical descriptions of HVAC plant to construct reference models of correct operation. The complexity of the models determines the detail of the information required. The challenge of this project is to identify the physical attributes of the HVAC components and subsystems that describe the core characteristics and to enable performance validation using simulation based methods.

Solution:
The project involves identifying the static information required to construct correct operation models of selected HVAC subsystems/products. Specifications extend the scope of IFC models to include this performance-related data. Particular consideration has been paid to the evolution of performance data through the building life cycle. The focus of the project is simulation based performance validation methods, which facilitate better understanding of dynamic behavior of building and its HVAC systems.

Scope of work:

1. Identification of performance information and sources within the life-cycle processes


2. Capture of performance information and interaction with IFC models in Design, Commissioning, Monitoring and Maintenance phases


3. Specification of IFC models/extensions to include performance data


4. Project will focus only on selected HVAC subsystems/products, which are radiator heating system and its defined components, air-handling unit and cooled beam
