Specifications

The IFC specification is published by the buildingSMART Modeling Support Group "the people behind the IFC specs" within a release cycle of major and minor editions (major editions  include schema changes, minor editions only documentation and other improvements). Each IFC specification includes

• the IFC Specification as a set of html documentations
• the IFC EXPRESS long form schema
• the ifcXML XSD schema
• the property set content distributed using the psdXML structure
  

In addition MSG develops and supports the additional specifications, guidelines and test procedures to implement the buildingSMART IFC specifications, This work is done in collaboration with the buildingSMART Implementation Support Group, ISG, and includes:

• the Model View Definitions, MVD
• the IFC Implementation Agreements
• the IFC Certification Process

MSG also overlooks the correspondence between the IFC specification and other related deliverables of other groups of buildingSMART, including:

• the Information Delivery Manual, IDM
• the International Framework for Dictionaries, IFD
